About the Course

ADA accommodation requests in the workplace are not optional, and they rarely arrive in a neat little package labeled “ADA.” For many organizations, the first hint lands with an administrator or manager wearing multiple hats—through an offhand comment, a note from a provider, a scheduling issue, or a performance conversation that suddenly shifts. If you do not handle these situations often, it is easy to hesitate, overpromise, or miss the trigger entirely.

This 101-level session is built for people who are just getting started or who need a refresh because they only touch ADA issues occasionally. We’ll cover what the law expects in employment, a simple process you can follow every time, the basic forms and documentation to keep ready, and the “stop signs” that tell you it’s time to pull in HR or legal support. Practical, clear, and designed for real workplaces.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize when an ADA accommodation process may be needed.
  • Follow a simple step-by-step approach for handling requests consistently.
  • Know what documentation and forms to have ready and how to protect confidentiality.
  • Communicate professionally, avoid common missteps, and know when to seek help.

You do not need to be an HR expert to handle ADA accommodation requests appropriately—you need a reliable process, the right tools, and the confidence to start. This session gives you a practical roadmap you can use immediately and return to later, so when the next request shows up, you’re ready to respond promptly, consistently, and in alignment with ADA requirements.

This SHRM-Certified course is eligible for 2.0 Personal Development Credits (PDCs).
