About This Course

Oregon leave requirements can feel like hiking a trail that keeps splitting into three more trails—each with its own rules, notices, timelines, and “wait, which leave is this again?” moments. This two-hour, online session is a practical, plain-English roadmap through the most common required leaves in Oregon, and the optional (employer-provided) leaves organizations often add on top.

Even when the law is crystal clear, organizations still have real choices to make: how to write policies, what forms to use, how to run the process, how to coordinate overlapping leaves, and how to apply decisions consistently across supervisors, HR, and the admin folks who keep the gears moving. We’ll focus on what’s required, what’s optional, and where your organization needs a clear, repeatable approach—so you can reduce risk and provide a smoother experience for employees and managers alike.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the major Oregon leave types that are commonly required and the most common optional leaves organizations choose to offer.
  • Recognize the key “decision points” where an organization has discretion (policy choices) and explain why consistency matters.
  • Follow a basic, repeatable leave process from first notice through designation, documentation, tracking, and return-to-work.
  • Spot common overlap situations (multiple leave laws applying at once) and know when to coordinate, escalate, or seek guidance.
  • Clarify the typical responsibilities of supervisors/managers, HR, and administrative processors in a functional leave workflow.

Participants will leave with a clearer map for navigating Oregon leaves—plus a practical framework for building (or refreshing) a process that is compliant, human, and consistent. This session is designed for mixed audiences, and it supports those who live in leave administration every day and those who only wade into the swamp occasionally. As always, this training provides general education and practical guidance and is not legal advice—when the situation is complex, time-sensitive, or high-risk, this is the moment to involve experienced HR support and/or legal counsel.
